Pickling meat
Our frig went out last year while we were out of state, we had a nasty mess when we returned. Recently our upright freezer went out but we discovered it within a day or three, so we lost part of the freezer goods but not all. For me, that was 90# of frozen meat saved and re-loaded into the replacement freezer.
