Question about .22lr within context of SHTF

In the past I asked a question about meth heads and saw a thread about meth heads approaching people's property in SHTF scenarios.

If the use of a firearm is necessary, is a rifle in .22lr good for head shots? Is it enough to end the thread for that target?
